My Education Reflections

  This is my analysis of the episode. How did I feel: Although there was some elements of comedy you could see that lack of parental and academic support can truly affect a child's behavior. How did you relate: I grew up in a single parent household an due to that mum had to fulfil both the role of mother and father. For a large period of my life the impact of my father's separation was reflected in my behavior and academic performance and when I grew older it was converted to an emotional impact where by with time I had learnt how to position myself in situations.

Educating Yorkshire - Episode 2 This is my analysis of the episode. How did I feel: I felt sorry for Jac because despite many chances the working class seems to have limited amount of chances and with his behavior worsening there was so much his school could do. How did you relate: When I was in year 3 in Portugal, I used to be your chatterbox child and the way the education is set up in Portugal if you don't do well you can repeat the year. My teacher had attempted many strategies to stop me talking in class but nothing was working until she gave me an ultimatum, she said that if I didn't stop talking I would repeat the year and from there I no longer misbehaved in classroom. Because I had understood from a very young age that my chances are limited, so my only chance that I need to cherish is my education.

  My Aims and Goals. What is my views on education? Growing up in single parent household, education has been passed on to me as a very important part of life. Being the first member of my household in higher education has been an a success in itself. I gave a lot of value to education because I saw it as my only stepping stone to move up mine and my family's social class and lifestyle. What is my aim in sharing my experience? I love watching the Educating Series as I felt represented through the students at the school. In this show it goes to working if not lower class public schools and documents their day to day. You can only check the authenticity of anything when it is proven. So through my experience I believe I will be able to prove that whatever good or bad that was portrayed in the Educating Series can either be wrong or right and it needs improvements.
